Embarking on treasure hunts in Red Dead Redemption 2 provides players with an exciting way to explore the frontier while earning substantial financial rewards. Among the various scavenger hunts available throughout the game, the quest for the Jack Hall Gang treasure stands out as an ideal entry point for early-game adventurers. Unlocking this multi-step pursuit requires finding the first map, which leads to a prominent landmark hidden within New Hanover.
Acquiring the First Jack Hall Gang Map
To begin the hunt, players must locate a Spanish treasure hunter named Maximo who can be found on a ridge near Flatneck Station. He offers to sell the initial treasure map for ten dollars, though players can negotiate or acquire it through alternative means if necessary. Obtaining this document unlocks the clue required to reach the first secret location.
If you happen to miss Maximo or choose not to purchase the map immediately, it will later become available at a fence. Having this map in Arthur's satchel allows players to inspect the sketch and begin searching for the depicted rock formations.
Locating Caliban's Seat
The drawing on the first map points directly toward Caliban's Seat, a distinctive landmark situated south of Valentine along the Dakota River. Upon arriving near the site, approach the rock formation from its eastern side where the incline is gentle enough to climb. Reaching the top reveals an abandoned campsite and a narrow path leading down toward the cliff face.
Carefully navigate down the ledge along the right side of the mountain while managing your footing. You will need to jump across small gaps between the narrow rock ledges to proceed safely. Following the path around the cliff face eventually leads to a small hidden crevice.
Retrieving the Reward and Next Clue
Once you reach the crevice at Caliban's Seat, press the interact prompt to search the hidden nook. Inside, Arthur will discover a pearl necklace along with the second map in the sequence. This crucial item points the way toward Cotorra Springs for the next phase of the adventure.
While this initial stage does not grant the final gold bars, it sets the foundation for completing the entire hunt. Securing the second map ensures you remain on track to ultimately claim the full treasure reward.
